An Overview of the 2018 Association of Marina Industries Conference
We’re headed to the Association of Marina Industries’ annual conference (IMBC) in just a few weeks! This year’s conference is in New Orleans and takes place from Wednesday January 31st to Friday February 2nd (Booths 127 & 129). Here are some of the things we’re excited to see.

How many times do you get to take a field trip as an adult? This conference kicks off with one that promises to be informative and engaging.

On-site Tours
We’ll make three stops:

  • South Shore Harbor Marina is the newest marina in the metropolitan area located just 20 minutes from the French Quarter.
  • Seabrook Harbor & Marine is New Orlean’s first and largest dry-stack and repair facility and is located on beautiful Lake Pontchartrain.
  • Orleans Marina is the best port for residents and transients and is centrally located near dining spots and tourist destinations.

It will be exciting to see how peer facilities operate. Don’t forget to make mental notes about restaurants where you may want to eat during free time. It would be a shame to miss out on that amazing New Orleans cuisine.

Engaging Keynotes
Both Thursday and Friday will begin with a keynote address. Thursday’s speaker is Janet Lapp, clinical psychologist, author of five books, and founder of ChangeFit Leadership Boot Camps. She specializes in leadership through disruptive change and has been named by Toastmasters as one of the top three speakers in the world.

The topic of her speech is Lead the Way: Bold Leadership

Friday’s speaker is Major Dan Rooney, USAF. Major Rooney served three combat tours in Iraq as a fighter pilot, is a PGA Golf Pro, and founded Folds of Honor, which awards scholarships to family members of soldiers who have been killed or disabled in combat. He has received numerous honors for his patriotism and philanthropy and was once named People magazine’s Hero of the Year. The topic of his speech is A Patriot’s Calling: Powerful Lessons of Leadership, Teamwork and Sacrifice.

Educational Breakouts
After those sure to be spectacular keynotes, you can take your pick of several breakout sessions that will educate and inform you on everything from ADA compliance, to marketing to BIG grant funding to new software, to fire safety to…well you get the idea, there are a lot of them. There’s sure to be a topic that will pique everyone’s interest.

Some of the sessions even qualify as education hours toward certification renewal. The final conference program will list the number of hours given for each event. For professional development hours be sure to check with your certification provider and your state’s requirements.

It’s going to be a great three days learning about all things marina in one of the best cities in the United States. Hope to see you there!
