Administrative Professionals Day 2025
On April 23rd, we celebrated Administrative Professionals Day by honoring Becky and Barb with a special cake titled “Boss Ladies Behind the Scenes” and presenting each of them with a beautiful vase of flowers. As the behind the scenes office powerhouses, these two outstanding professionals manage a tremendous range of responsibilities that keep both our offices and production running smoothly at MariCorp. From coordinating water crew housing and installation crew reservations to overseeing payroll and employee insurance services, nearly every aspect of the business is touched by their hard work and attention to detail.
HISTORY OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROFESSIONALS DAY
Previously known as Secretaries Day or Admin Day, in the United States, it’s celebrated on the last Wednesday in the month of April. After World War II, there was a scarcity of skilled office administrative and secretarial personnel because of the birth decline during the Depression in the United States.
Post-war business boomed, and in 1942, the National Secretaries Association was created, formed not only to recognize the contributions of administrative personnel, but to help develop interest and attract workers to this field.
In 1952, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Charles W. Sawyer, officially proclaimed June 1-7 of that year as “National Secretaries Week”. The following year this commemoration became official, designated as National Secretaries’ Day, on June 4th. In 1955. By 2000, the observation was moved to the last full week in April, with Wednesday noted as Administrative Professionals Day, to include the wide range of responsibilities and job titles of administrative staff in our modern economy.
