National Guacamole Day Nachos Buffet
National Guacamole Day? We’re All In!
Let’s be honest—any excuse for nachos is a good one. But when September 16 rolls around and it just happens to be National Guacamole Day, we know exactly what we’re doing: putting together a top-tier nachos buffet and calling it a company lunch.
This year’s spread did not disappoint. From seasoned meats to mounds of fresh toppings and warm queso, we went all out. Homemade was the theme of the day, and judging by the empty trays and happy faces, it was exactly the kind of midday break everyone needed.
The Buffet Lineup:
You didn’t need to be a guac fanatic to appreciate the full-on nacho experience. Our crew turned out a DIY buffet that had something for everyone—meat lovers, vegetarians, spice seekers, and those just in it for the queso.
Let’s talk about what hit the table:
- Seasoned Ground Beef
- Lightly Blackened Chicken
- Seasoned Black Beans & Refried Pinto Beans
- Queso Dip (an all-time favorite)
But the toppings bar? That’s where things really got serious. We set up a massive variety of fresh and flavorful additions:
- Chopped lettuce
- Diced tomatoes and onions
- Pico de gallo
- Mini sweet peppers (diced)
- Sour cream
- Queso fresco
- Shredded cheese
- Green onions
- Lime wedges
- Corn tortilla chips
- And of course, guacamole!
Dessert didn’t take a backseat either. A variety of cookies capped off the meal and gave everyone a little something sweet to take with them back to work.
Why We Do It
We make an effort to host several themed lunches and employee meals throughout the year. Why? Because food brings people together—and good food tends to make a good day even better. This wasn’t just about guacamole. It’s about creating moments where our team can slow down, grab a plate, and enjoy time together.
These kinds of shared meals also give us a chance to appreciate the hard work that goes into everything we do. From water crew and admin to the shop crew and design teams, everyone gets a seat at the table. Plus, it’s just fun to surprise folks with something a little different, especially when it includes queso.
So…What’s the Deal With Guacamole?
Let’s give it up for the green stuff. Guacamole’s been a fan favorite for a long time, but it hasn’t always had the cultural moment it enjoys today. In fact, there was a time not too long ago when avocados were considered a niche item in American grocery stores, limited to California and Southwest kitchens, or specialty markets.
Fast forward a few decades, and guacamole has gone mainstream. A big reason? The United States lifted a longstanding ban on Mexican avocado imports in 1997. That opened the door to year-round access, competitive pricing, and booming demand. The avocado went from rare to essential, and guacamole rode the wave.
Now it’s a staple at parties, barbecues, and yes, company lunches. According to the Hass Avocado Board, Americans consumed over 2.6 billion pounds of avocados in 2022 alone. And on days like Super Bowl Sunday or Cinco de Mayo, guacamole is practically required.
National Guacamole Day, celebrated every September 16, is more than a food holiday—it’s an excuse to lean into one of America’s favorite snacks and have some fun with it.

What’s Next?
Our team has a few more food-themed events in the pipeline as we head into fall and winter. Whether it’s chili cook-offs, soup bars, or a good old-fashioned pulled pork or BBQ ribs, we’ll keep finding ways to gather, eat, and enjoy the season.
Thanks to everyone who helped prep, serve, and clean up after the nachos buffet—it wouldn’t have happened without you. And for anyone wondering: yes, we’re already planning what we’re doing for Thanksgiving Day.
Until then, keep the guac coming.
