Fort Madison Marina

Fort Madison, IA - Mississippi River

The Fort Madison Marina, situated in the southeast part of Iowa along the Mississippi River, has undergone significant renovations over the past two years. The marina was transformed into a high-quality facility after a complete overhaul. The city of Fort Madison recognized the need for a sustainable solution for the marina, which had faced challenges due to aging infrastructure, lack of funds, and damage from floods. To address these issues, a comprehensive plan was developed to revitalize the marina, enhancing its appeal and functionality for both local and transient boaters.

In the first phase of the renovation, significant improvements were made. This phase included:

  • Dredging: To create a deeper basin and accommodate more boats.
  • Jetty Wall Improvements: The old jetty wall was removed, and a new, extended wall was installed.
  • Installation of High-Quality Docks: The marina now features 32 covered and 68 covered floating docks.
  • New Fuel and Boat Launch Docks: A modern fuel dock with an updated fuel system and pump-out facilities. Two boat launch docks that remain accessible through rising and falling water levels.
  • Security Enhancements: Improvements to ensure the safety and security of the marina and its patrons.

MariCorp U.S. was responsible for building all of the new floating docks. These docks offer amenities like electric, water, and Wi-Fi connections and are available for both yearly rentals and transient boaters.

In 2023, MariCorp continued the development with the construction of additional floating docks for phase two. This phase included

  • 28 covered berths
  • 32 open berths
  • A 150-foot-long courtesy dock

The marina also features a variety of amenities to enhance the experience of its visitors:

  • Restaurant and Bar: A new restaurant and bar with both indoor and outdoor seating, offering food, beverages, and live music.
  • Hospitality Center: A hospitality center capable of seating 100 guests.
  • Boater Facilities: Restrooms, showers, and a supply store for boating necessities.

This hospitality center, which includes a bar and grill, Marina sales offices and event space, is a significant investment and is designed to withstand potential flood damage from the Mississippi River, thereby ensuring its long-term viability.

The marina’s reconstruction is anticipated to significantly boost tourism and economic development in Fort Madison. The new and improved docks, along with the restaurant and other amenities, are attracting attention and are expected to draw visitors from afar. This development aligns with the city’s goal to create a sustainable, long-term solution for the marina, contributing to the area’s economic health and community vitality.

The redevelopment of the Fort Madison Marina represents a central step in the city’s efforts to enhance its appeal as a destination for boaters and tourists. The combination of new facilities, increased docking capacity, and additional amenities positions the marina as a key player in the region’s economic and recreational landscape.
